Our Story

Taru Jaipur is a design-first store of hand block-printed home-decor products made from natural fibre fabric. We’re a handcrafted, homegrown, neo-traditional business that puts great emphasis on quality, detail and aesthetics. Our repertoire presently includes bedsheets, pillow covers, sheer curtains, cushion covers, blankets, quilts and dohars.

When you think of us, think of the goodness of nature, and the wholesome feel of a product made with great thought and care. Think of flowers swaying gently in the wind, birds flying in flocks across the sky each evening as the sun sets, an unhurried brunch in the garden with your family and friends under the shade of the jamun tree your grandmother planted decades ago.

Why us?

The need for our homes—where we’re spending more time than ever—to be our safe place is more important now than it has ever been before. There is a deeper desire now to beautify our living spaces and nurture them into happy, vibrant sanctuaries. We at Taru Jaipur help you do just that—make your home into a place of ease and quiet joy.

Our hand block printing designs are traditional with a modern flair. Our colour tones and combinations are bold, daring and refreshingly new in a world of Sanganeri reds and greens. Moreover, since we have our own independent manufacturing unit, and have closely worked with fabrics and hand block printing for years, great attention to detail—which is one of our core values—reflects in all our products.

The name

Taru means tree in Hindi, which is in keeping with our Founder Harshita Gurjar’s obsession with flora, fauna and all things nature. Some people birdwatch. Others stargaze. Harshita is an ardent tree-watcher.

Why Jaipur? Because we’re based out of the desert-state’s capital and derive heavily from its cultural landscape and mores.

The logo

It’s an artfully done illustration of Kachnar, a flower that grows in abundance in Rajasthan. There are two flowering Kachnar trees in the precinct of Taru Jaipur’s manufacturing unit in Sanganer. Both thoughtfully planted in a way that they can clearly be seen from the unit’s colour room and inspire those making the creative decisions inside it with their quiet, fragrant presence—a role they have been dutifully executing with enviable expertise for years now.

Kachnar also because of its serene, unassuming beauty and medicinal powers. We hope that much like Kachnar’s healing properties make it indispensable to ayurveda, Taru Jaipur’s fabrics also become an essential part of your everyday life—spreading calm, colour and positivity.

Our vision

Other than diversifying our existing range of products to include bathroom, kitchen and everything else that can be made out of fabric for use at home, we intend to be as sustainable, eco-friendly and local as possible. This means using natural dyes, removing plastic completely from packaging and other processes, and limiting the use of paper and water to the minimum. We’re not there yet, but we will soon be.
